Memphis Slim, born John Len Chatman in 1915, was a leading figure in American blues as a pianist, singer, and composer. Renowned for his dynamic bands and engaging jump blues style, he recorded the influential song "Every Day I Have the Blues" in 1947, now a classic covered by many artists. Over his career, he made more than 500 recordings and was honored with induction into the Blues Hall of Fame in 1989.
