The Replacements were an influential American rock band formed in Minneapolis in 1979, known for their blend of punk energy and heartfelt songwriting. The original lineup featured Paul Westerberg, Bob Stinson, Tommy Stinson, and Chris Mars. Starting out with raw punk records, the band soon helped shape alternative rock with celebrated albums like Let It Be and Tim. Lineup changes saw Slim Dunlap and Steve Foley join later years. Renowned for their unpredictable and raucous live shows, the Replacements earned a devoted fan following who called them the Mats. Their sound drew on classic rock and punk influences, mixing confessional lyrics with rousing melodies. The band broke up in 1991 but reunited in 2012, leaving a lasting mark on American rock music.
