The Hollies are an English rock and pop band formed in Manchester in 1962, renowned for their distinctive three-part vocal harmonies. Rising to prominence in the 1960s and continuing into the mid-1970s, they became notable figures of the British music scene. The group was founded by singer Allan Clarke and guitarist Graham Nash as part of the Merseybeat movement. Nash departed in 1968 to form Crosby Stills and Nash but later reunited with the band at times. Key members have included Tony Hicks, Terry Sylvester, Eric Haydock, Bernie Calvert, Don Rathbone, and Bobby Elliott.
The Hollies achieved chart success with hits such as Just One Look, Here I Go Again, I’m Alive, Look Through Any Window, I Can’t Let Go, Bus Stop, Stop Stop Stop, On a Carousel, Carrie Anne, He Ain’t Heavy He’s My Brother, Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress, and The Air That I Breathe. They scored over 30 hits in the UK and also found success in the United States and Canada.
One of the few British bands from the early 1960s to never disband, the Hollies have continued to record and tour for decades. Their lasting influence was recognized with their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010.
