The Doors were an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1965 by Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger, and John Densmore. Known for their groundbreaking sound and Morrison’s provocative lyrics and charismatic presence, they became one of the most influential and controversial acts of the 1960s counterculture. The band’s name was inspired by Aldous Huxley’s book The Doors of Perception. Signing with Elektra Records, they released several classic albums including The Doors, Strange Days, and L.A. Woman. After Morrison’s death in 1971, the remaining members continued briefly before disbanding. The Doors have sold over 100 million records worldwide and are recognized as one of the best-selling and greatest rock bands of all time, with enduring influence on music and culture.
