The 1975

The 1975

The 1975 is an English pop rock band formed in Wilmslow, Cheshire in 2002. Comprised of Matty Healy, Adam Hann, Ross MacDonald, and George Daniel, the band takes its name from a dated page in a copy of Jack Kerouac’s On the Road. Starting out as school friends, they began performing together as teenagers before releasing music professionally in 2012 under the independent label Dirty Hit. The group quickly gained attention with a series of EPs and their chart-topping self-titled debut album in 2013, which featured hits like Sex, Chocolate, and Robbers. All their studio albums have reached number one in the UK and received international recognition, with standout records including I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful yet So Unaware of It, which earned a Grammy nomination, and A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships, which won British Album of the Year at the Brit Awards. Recognized for their experimental approach to pop and rock, The 1975 has been celebrated by critics and influential music publications, earning multiple Brit and Ivor Novello Awards and nominations for the Mercury Prize and Grammys. The band is widely regarded as one of the leading and most innovative pop rock acts of their generation.
