T. Rex was an influential English rock band formed in London in 1967 by Marc Bolan, who served as the group’s driving force and only constant member. Initially rooted in psychedelic folk, the band shifted towards electric rock in 1969 and soon after became known for pioneering the glam rock movement. They achieved major success in the early 1970s with hits like Ride a White Swan, Hot Love, Get It On, Telegram Sam and Metal Guru. Their 1971 album Electric Warrior is regarded as a glam rock classic, while later releases explored elements of soul, funk and R and B. Following Bolan’s untimely death in 1977, T. Rex disbanded, but their music has continued to inspire generations of artists. In 2020, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
