Steve Earle, born January 17, 1955, is an American singer-songwriter known for blending country, rock, and folk influences. Starting his career in Nashville as a songwriter, he released his first EP in 1982 and gained widespread recognition with his 1986 debut album Guitar Town. Over his extensive career, Earle has released more than 20 albums and won three Grammy awards for Best Contemporary Folk Album. His hit single Copperhead Road became a crossover classic, enjoying chart success and enduring popularity into the 21st century. Earle’s songwriting has attracted artists like Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and Emmylou Harris. Beyond music, he has appeared in acclaimed television series such as The Wire and Treme, and authored a novel, a play, and short stories. He is also known as the father and collaborator of the late musician Justin Townes Earle.
