Sandy Denny was an influential English singer-songwriter noted for her role as lead vocalist in Fairport Convention, a pioneering British folk rock band. After a brief stint with the Strawbs, she joined Fairport Convention in 1968 and helped define their sound before forming Fotheringay in 1970. Denny later pursued a solo career, releasing four acclaimed albums in the 1970s. Her distinctive voice and songwriting, especially her widely covered song "Who Knows Where the Time Goes," won her lasting recognition. Among her most notable collaborations is a duet with Robert Plant on Led Zeppelin's "The Battle of Evermore." Denny passed away in 1978 at the age of 31, but her legacy endures, with critics often naming her Britain's finest female singer-songwriter. Her recordings continue to be reissued and celebrated, and in 2023, she was ranked among Rolling Stone’s 200 Greatest Singers of All Time.
