Rufus Wainwright is a Canadian-American singer, songwriter, and composer known for his distinctive voice and lush, theatrical style. Active since the late 1990s, he has released eleven studio albums, including his acclaimed debut, his breakthrough Poses, and the celebrated Want series. Wainwright is also recognized for his ambitious live performances, such as his tribute to Judy Garland at Carnegie Hall, and for composing two operas and adapting Shakespeare’s sonnets into music for the stage. The son of folk musicians Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle, and the brother of singer Martha Wainwright, Rufus blends classical, pop, and theatrical influences in his work.
