Robert Wyatt, born in 1945, is an English musician known for his influential role in the Canterbury scene as a founding member of Soft Machine and Matching Mole. Initially a drummer and singer, his career shifted dramatically after a 1973 accident left him paraplegic, leading him to focus on solo work. Wyatt’s music blends elements of jazz, progressive rock, pop, and folk, often marked by collaboration and political themes. He retired from music in 2014. Wyatt is married to painter and songwriter Alfreda Benge.
