Rise Against is an American melodic hardcore band from Chicago, formed in 1999. The current lineup features Tim McIlrath on vocals and rhythm guitar, Zach Blair on lead guitar, Joe Principe on bass, and Brandon Barnes on drums. Known for their energetic sound, catchy melodies, and fast-paced style, Rise Against has built a reputation for thought-provoking lyrics addressing issues such as politics, animal rights, and social justice. After gaining early underground success with two albums on Fat Wreck Chords, the band broke into the mainstream with Siren Song of the Counter Culture and singles like Give It All and Swing Life Away. Their subsequent albums, including The Sufferer and the Witness, Appeal to Reason, and Endgame, achieved top ten positions on the Billboard 200 and expanded their international reach. Rise Against is recognized not only for their music but also for their commitment to activism, supporting causes like animal rights and humanitarian organizations. Most members follow a vegetarian and straight edge lifestyle. The band’s latest album, Nowhere Generation, was released in 2021, with their next album, Ricochet, scheduled for release in 2025.
