Portico Quartet is an instrumental band from London distinguished by their innovative use of the hang, a unique percussion instrument. Their acclaimed debut album Knee-Deep in the North Sea received a Mercury Prize nomination and won Time Out’s Jazz, Folk and World album of the year in 2007. The group features Duncan Bellamy on drums and electronics, Jack Wyllie on saxophones and keyboards, Milo Fitzpatrick on bass, and Keir Vine on keyboards. Their name was inspired by an early performance played under a portico during a rainstorm. The visual identity of the band, including all album artwork, is created by Bellamy, who has a background in fine art.
