Onyx is a hardcore hip hop group from New York City, formed in 1988 by Fredro Starr, Suavé and Big DS, with Sticky Fingaz joining in 1991. The group rose to fame with their platinum single Slam in 1993, a track that brought slam dancing into hip hop culture. Their debut album Bacdafucup achieved platinum status, earned the Best Rap Album award at the Soul Train Music Awards, and is recognized as one of The Source magazine's 100 Best Rap Albums. Known for their aggressive, energetic style and raw stage presence, Onyx has released eight studio albums, three of which reached the Top 25 on the US charts.
