Shlomo Hamelech VeShalmai HaSandlar is a celebrated Israeli musical originally written by Sami Gronemann and translated from German by Nathan Alterman in 1942. Widely regarded as one of the most successful musicals in the country’s history, it achieved both artistic acclaim and commercial success. The show premiered in 1943, and in 1964 was adapted into a full-scale musical at the Cameri Theatre with songs composed by Sasha Argov. The production has been revived multiple times, including notable stagings at Habima Theatre and Beit Zvi. The musical has also been translated into Yiddish and English.
