Melanie Anne Safka Schekeryk, known professionally as Melanie, was an American singer-songwriter who found international fame in the early 1970s. She is best remembered for her hit song "Brand New Key," her rendition of the Rolling Stones' "Ruby Tuesday," the anthem "What Have They Done to My Song Ma," and "Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)," which was inspired by her performance at Woodstock in 1969.
