KMD, short for Kausing Much Damage or A Positive Kause in a Much Damaged Society, was an influential American hip hop trio from the late 1980s and early 1990s. Formed by brothers Daniel Dumile and Dingilizwe Dumile, the group was later joined by Onyx the Birthstone Kid after the original third member departed. Known for their sharp social commentary and unique style, KMD released the acclaimed albums Mr Hood in 1991 and Black Bastards, which faced delays and controversy, finally seeing release in 2000. The group disbanded after the tragic death of Dingilizwe Dumile and label disputes. Daniel Dumile later found solo success as MF DOOM. Though there were brief attempts to revive KMD in the 2010s, no full album materialized before Daniel Dumile's death in 2020.
