Hahnemühle Sumi-e Skitsebog 20 30 x 40 cm 80 g
A special paper for the Japanese sumi-e painting technique. This ‘free-style ink painting’ works particularly well on the highly absorbent paper. ‘Sumi’ translates as “black ink” and “e” means both “way” and “painting”. These are simple yet highly aesthetic drawings that consist of powerful, mostly chasing and quickly thrown strokes. With a great deal of inner calm and meditative balance, pictures are created that capture the essence and movement of the motif. Sumi-e is therefore not only an Asian painting technique but also a kind of spiritual relaxation therapy. Sumi-e painting was developed in the 5th century from Chinese calligraphy. It is characterised by nature motifs. In the 12th century, Zen monks brought the painting technique to Japan, where sumi-e painting still has a strong influence on lifestyle today. In Europe, this painting technique is gaining ground and Hahnemühle FineArt offers an ideal paper for it.
