Glenn Gould (25 September 1932 – 4 October 1982) was a Canadian classical pianist celebrated for his extraordinary interpretations of Johann Sebastian Bach. Known for his exceptional technical skill and unique approach to music, he largely avoided most Romantic composers and instead focused on works by Bach, Beethoven, and select modern and pre-Baroque composers. In addition to his influential recordings, Gould was a writer and broadcaster, creating innovative radio documentaries and television programs about music. His eccentric personality and dislike of public performance led him to end his concert career at the age of 31, dedicating himself instead to studio recordings and media work.
