Girlschool is a pioneering British rock band formed in 1978 during the new wave of British heavy metal. Known for their association with Motörhead, they are recognized as the longest-running all-female rock group, still performing after more than four decades. Emerging from the school band Painted Lady, Girlschool gained significant attention and commercial success in the early 1980s with their energetic blend of punk and metal. Over the years, they have played festivals and toured internationally, sharing stages with major rock and metal acts. Girlschool has inspired generations of female musicians and maintains a loyal global following despite numerous lineup changes. Original lead guitarist and singer Kelly Johnson passed away in 2007, and the band continues today, keeping their legacy alive.
