Gang of Four was an influential English post-punk band formed in Leeds in 1976 by Jon King, Andy Gill, Dave Allen, and Hugo Burnham. Known for their sharp, minimalist blend of punk rock, funk, and dub, they set themselves apart with socially and politically charged lyrics. Their debut album, Entertainment, is widely acclaimed as a post-punk classic, featured in several "greatest albums" lists and consistently cited for its lasting impact on alternative music.
The band's lineup changed over the years, with notable members including Sara Lee, Gail Ann Dorsey, Mark Heaney, and David Pajo. After various reunions and tours, they continued to perform live into the 2020s. In 2025, the group announced their final tour with Jon King, Hugo Burnham, Ted Leo, and Gail Greenwood. Gang of Four remains celebrated for their pioneering sound and incisive political commentary, often described as one of rock's most important politically motivated bands.
