A low-noise twin triode
The 6922 belongs to the 6DJ8 / E88CC family, developed for high transconductance and quiet operation. That combination is why the type became a standard in hi-fi preamplifiers, line stages and buffer circuits, and why it also turns up in the input stages of audio gear where the noise floor of the first tube sets the noise floor of everything after it.
Why current production helps
Electro-Harmonix tubes are new designs built in Russia, not repackaged old stock. In a stereo preamp that consistency is worth something practical: the two channels stay closer to each other, and a replacement tube behaves like the one it replaced. Many manufacturers fit relabelled Electro-Harmonix tubes in their own equipment.
