David Gilmour, born in 1946, is an English guitarist, singer, and songwriter best known as a member of Pink Floyd. He joined the band in 1967, playing a key role as they became one of the most influential and bestselling acts in rock history. After Roger Waters left in 1985, Gilmour led Pink Floyd through new albums such as A Momentary Lapse of Reason, The Division Bell, and The Endless River. As a solo artist, he has released five albums including David Gilmour, On an Island, Rattle That Lock, and Luck and Strange. Gilmour is also recognized for producing the Dream Academy and helping launch Kate Bush’s career. He has received numerous honors, including inductions into the US and UK Music Halls of Fame and being named Commander of the Order of the British Empire. In addition to his music, Gilmour supports social and environmental causes. His wife, novelist Polly Samson, has contributed lyrics to many of his songs.
