Camel is an English progressive rock band that formed in Guildford in 1971, with guitarist Andrew Latimer at the helm. Best known for their 1970s cult classic albums like Mirage and The Snow Goose, they blended rich instrumental passages with a melodic approach. In the early 1980s, Camel experimented with jazzier and more accessible sounds before taking a lengthy break. Since 1991, they have operated independently and occasionally perform live, though they have not released a new studio album since 2002. Camel’s distinctive style has influenced groups such as Marillion, Opeth, and Steven Wilson, earning them a reputation as one of the underrated legends of progressive rock.
