Bronski Beat was a British synth-pop band formed in London in 1983. The original group featured Jimmy Somerville on vocals, Steve Bronski on keyboards and percussion, and Larry Steinbachek on keyboards and percussion, with Simon Davolls providing backing vocals. Known for their openly gay members and strong political messages in their music, Bronski Beat rose to fame with their 1984 hit "Smalltown Boy" from the album The Age of Consent. This track became their most recognized international single. After Somerville left in 1985, the band continued with new vocalists, most notably John Foster, before eventually disbanding in 1995. Steve Bronski revived Bronski Beat in 2016 with new material, but the group’s original era remains their most celebrated. Today, Jimmy Somerville is the last surviving original member.
