Roll of watercolour paper suitable for wet techniques. The paper is made using the traditional method on a cylindrical mould. quality close to that of paper made by craft methods. The slow turning of the cylinder enables the fibres to be deposited evenly and spread in all directions over the wire. The fibres are distributed evenly, the paper slackens uniformly when wet, giving the artist more control.

The 100% cotton long fibre composition gives the paper beauty, a natural, lasting whiteness and an inimitable touch as well as strength and longevity.

Exclusive to ARCHES, gelatin sizing to the core preserves the lustre and transparency of the colours whilst preventing paints from penetrating into the paper. It allows superposing of washes and gives it added strength to resist erasing and scratching without tearing or linting. It also allows paints to be removed, either wet or dry, easily revealing the whiteness of the paper. ARCHES® Aquarelle can absorb a large amount of water with limited deformation.

The paper produced on the cylindrical mould has a natural, decked edge. The untrimmed, irregular edge gives the paper a softer, more authentic look and a closer resemblance to handmade paper.

Fungicidal treatment prevents the appearance of mould. With alkaline reserve, acid-free, no optical brightening agents (permanent in accordance with ISO 9706).

The authenticity of the paper is guaranteed by a watermark. Shadecraft or shaded watermarks are obtained by impressing a relief image in the metal screen onto which the pulp fixes in the first stage of the papermaking process. There will be less pulp at this place and the motif will be visible when the paper is held up to the light.
