Yamaha HS8S Subwoofer — Extended Low End for the HS Series

The Yamaha HS8S is an 8" bass-reflex powered studio subwoofer engineered for the HS Series nearfield monitoring setup. This model adds accurate low-frequency extension down to 22 Hz so producers hear what their mixes are doing below the crossover point. The HS8S subwoofer is purpose-built for project and pro studios that need a flat, honest reference.

What Sets the HS8S Apart in Its Category

A noise-reduction port design cuts audible port turbulence by up to 6 dB, keeping the bass-reflex output clean at high SPL. A three-way mitered-joint MDF enclosure — borrowed from over a century of Yamaha piano cabinet design — anchors the corners to suppress resonance that would smear the low end.

Driver, Power and Frequency Response

The HS8S dedicates its entire amplifier budget to bass reproduction.

• LF Driver: 8" cone woofer in a bass-reflex enclosure — compact enough for small rooms while still reaching sub territory
• Amplifier Power: 150 W dedicated exclusively to low frequencies
• Frequency Range: 22 Hz – 160 Hz — extends well below the typical 40 Hz floor of nearfield monitors

Tuning Controls and Connectivity

Room placement and crossover choice matter more for subs than for any other monitor.

• LOW CUT switch and control: 80–120 Hz — trims the sub's own low end to remove room rumble
• HIGH CUT control: 80–120 Hz — sets the crossover point so the HS8S hands off cleanly to the satellites
• PHASE switch: normal/reverse — aligns the sub with the monitors when placement forces a distance offset
• Inputs: Balanced 6.3 mm TRS jack and balanced XLR female — accepts the same cables used by the rest of the HS range
• Outputs: XLR L/R — pass-through to the HS5, HS7 or HS8 satellites without extra hardware
• Enclosure: MDF with three-way mitered-joint corners — keeps resonance low enough that the cabinet never colors the bass
