João Gilberto was a Brazilian guitarist, singer, and composer known as the father of bossa nova. Rising to fame in the late 1950s, he played a key role in shaping this influential genre. His collaboration on the album Getz/Gilberto made history in 1965 as the first jazz album to win the Grammy for Album of the Year.
