Opeth is a progressive metal band from Stockholm, Sweden, formed in 1990. Known for blending elements of folk, blues, classical, and jazz into their expansive compositions, their early material is heavily influenced by death metal, featuring both aggressive growls and melodic passages. Throughout their history, the lineup has changed frequently, with guitarist and songwriter Mikael Åkerfeldt steering the band since 1992. After limited performances in their early years, Opeth gained international recognition with the release of albums like Blackwater Park and Ghost Reveries, and began extensive world touring. Their discography includes fourteen studio albums and several live recordings. Notable successes include chart-topping releases such as Watershed and award-winning work like The Last Will and Testament, which received the Swedish Grammis for Best Hard Rock/Metal album.
