Dio was an American heavy metal band founded in 1982 by vocalist Ronnie James Dio after his departure from Black Sabbath, joined by drummer Vinny Appice. Named for its frontman, the band became known for powerful vocals, melodic metal, and dramatic themes. Over the years, Dio released ten studio albums and featured a lineup of notable guitarists such as Vivian Campbell, Craig Goldy, Doug Aldrich, Warren DeMartini, Tracy G, Jake E. Lee, and Rowan Robertson, with Ronnie James Dio remaining its central figure. The band ended in 2010 following Dio’s death from stomach cancer. Dio’s music has sold over 50 million records worldwide, leaving a lasting impact on the heavy metal genre.
