Vertical humbucker pickup in single-coil format that is suitable for use in all 3 position on a ST-style electric guitars, even though it was originally created to be a warmer bridge-position companion to the DiMarzio’s HS-2 humbucker. Yngwie Malmsteen, Swedish guitarist and bandleader known for his neoclassical metal playing style, adopted this model for his standard neck and bridge pickup, and almost overnight acquired the reputation of being a high-powered metal pickup. This is not really the case: this pickup is actually a smooth and relatively quiet and produces a sweet overdrive tone without jagged edges. It delivers a slightly warmer-than-usual Strat sound. What Yngwie discovered is that these qualities combine perfectly with a heavily distorted amp, because the sound will not get muddy or messy. This pickup is also very versatile – it is a noise-free pickup perfect in a live situation or in the studio. It combines in middle and neck positions with bridge humbuckers like PAF Pro, PAF, Air Classic and Norton. It is equipped with a 4-conductor wiring and an Alnico V magnet. Output: 93.
