Yamaha APX600 Black — Stage-Ready Thinline Acoustic-Electric

The Yamaha APX600 Black is a thinline jumbo acoustic-electric guitar built for players who want stage-ready tone without the bulk of a traditional dreadnought. Its slim body sits comfortably against the torso, while the Venetian cutaway opens up the upper frets. Equipped with the SYSTEM65 preamp and SRT piezo pickup, this instrument transitions easily from practice to coffeehouse gigs.

What Sets the APX600 Apart

Few acoustic-electrics in this price range pair a non-scalloped X-type bracing pattern with Yamaha's proprietary SRT (Studio Response Technology) pickup system. The SRT pickup uses individual elements for each string, producing an ultra-clear, ultra-wide bandwidth signal with better dynamic response than typical piezo designs. The 3-band EQ shapes a stage-focused sound.

Jumbo Body Built for Comfort and Projection

A 5mm deeper body than earlier APX generations improves bass response and volume, while the non-scalloped X-bracing maximizes resonance for a full, natural acoustic voice. The spruce top delivers the articulate, balanced tone that has made spruce a favorite among flatpickers and strummers.

• Body Shape: APX thinline jumbo with Venetian cutaway — slim profile that hugs the body and grants easy top-fret access
• Top: Spruce — bright, articulate response with strong projection that cuts through a mix
• Body Depth: 80–90 mm — deeper than previous APX models for improved bass response

Neck and Fingerboard Tuned for Effortless Playing

A shorter 634mm scale length and narrower 10mm string spacing make chord stretches easier, a welcome feature for players with smaller hands or anyone transitioning from electric guitar. The rosewood fingerboard offers a smooth, responsive feel, while the urea nut and saddle provide stable tuning.

• Scale Length: 634 mm — shorter than dreadnought scale, easier string bending
• Nut Width: 43 mm — comfortable grip for fingerstyle and strumming
• Rosewood fingerboard with R400 mm radius offers a smooth feel and a flat profile suited to lead playing

Plug-In Ready with SYSTEM65 and SRT Pickup

The SYSTEM65 preamp paired with the SRT under-saddle piezo pickup delivers a natural, feedback-resistant amplified tone. Onboard controls include volume, 3-band EQ, tunable mid-frequency, and a built-in chromatic tuner, giving players full tonal shaping without external pedals. Yamaha's Player Port app adds lessons, tips, and a free tuner.

• Pickup System: SRT piezo under-saddle with SYSTEM65 preamp — natural amplified tone, strong feedback rejection
• Controls: Volume / 3-band EQ / Tuner / Tunable Mid Frequency — full tonal shaping on the guitar
• LINE OUT jack connects directly to PA systems, mixers, or acoustic amps without needing extra gear

Ideal for Gigging Guitarists and Beginners Alike

This thinline acoustic-electric is the right choice for singer-songwriters and acoustic performers who need a comfortable, plug-and-play guitar that sounds consistent from coffeehouse to small club. Its thinline body and cutaway suit electric guitarists adding acoustic to their setup, while the approachable price and Player Port app support beginners. Intermediate players gain stage-ready electronics and reliable tuning.

The APX Legacy Since 1987

Yamaha introduced the APX series in 1987, and the lineup has remained a benchmark for stage-focused thinline acoustics ever since. This generation refines that legacy with a 5mm deeper body, a new non-scalloped X-bracing pattern, and the proprietary SRT pickup shared with Yamaha's A-Series. Made in Indonesia with a one-year warranty, this model continues the APX tradition.
