Oil primer. Oil sheps is a white paint that is used as a primer for the surface of a future painting. Its purpose is to even out surface irregularities and create an optical base for the painting. Oil sheps consist of floating chalk, powdered white, polymerized linseed oil, fermege and turpentine. The primer must be perfectly dry before the painting is applied.
