The Streets is a British music project fronted by Mike Skinner, known for its influential blend of UK hip hop, garage, and grime. Originating in Birmingham in the early 1990s, The Streets rose to prominence in the 2000s with a series of acclaimed albums, starting with Original Pirate Material in 2002. The project is recognized for its vivid storytelling and distinct sound, producing major UK hits such as Has It Come to This, Fit but You Know It, and the chart-topping Dry Your Eyes. After a hiatus following the 2011 album Computers and Blues, Skinner revived The Streets in 2017, later releasing a mixtape in 2020 and a sixth studio album, The Darker the Shadow the Brighter the Light, in 2023. Widely regarded as a defining force in modern British music, The Streets has helped shape the sound and direction of UK rap and electronic music.
