Texas is a Scottish rock band formed in Glasgow in 1986 by Johnny McElhone, Ally McErlaine, and Sharleen Spiteri. They made their live debut in 1988 and released their first album, Southside, in 1989, which featured the hit single I Don't Want a Lover and sold over two million copies worldwide. While their next two albums, Mothers Heaven and Ricks Road, saw moderate success in Europe, Texas reached new heights with their fourth album, White on Blonde, in 1997. This chart-topping release became their best-selling album, earning six platinum certifications in the UK. The band continued their success with The Hush and a Greatest Hits collection before taking a hiatus in 2005, during which Sharleen Spiteri pursued a solo career. Texas returned in 2013 with The Conversation and found continued popularity with later albums, including 2021's Hi, which debuted in the top three of the UK charts. Over their career, Texas has sold more than 40 million records worldwide.
