Tascam DP-006 — Portable 6-Track Digital Pocketstudio

The Tascam DP-006 is a battery-powered multitrack recorder for musicians who need to capture song ideas the instant inspiration strikes. Weighing just 360 g and running on four AA batteries for up to 9 hours, this Pocketstudio slips into a gig bag. It captures up to six tracks at CD-quality 16-bit/44.1kHz, with two simultaneous inputs and six-track simultaneous playback. This model suits songwriters and traveling musicians wanting a dedicated hardware sketch pad without DAW complexity.

Built-In Stereo Mics and Analog-Style Controls

Two omnidirectional condenser microphones on the front panel let users record vocals or acoustic guitar straight out of the box, modeled after Tascam's DR-series recorders. Dedicated LEVEL and PAN knobs for each track, plus a tactile transport section, deliver the feel of a classic analog cassette multitrack. A tripod screw thread enables flexible mic placement.

Recording Specifications and Connectivity

This model stores songs on SD or SDHC cards up to 32 GB, with a 4 GB card included. Two TS 1/4-inch mic/line inputs accept dynamic microphones or line-level sources, while Input A's MIC/LINE/GUITAR switch handles an electric guitar or bass directly. A 3.5 mm stereo mini jack serves as line output and 15 mW headphone output, and USB 2.0 Mini-B enables WAV file transfer.

• With its 2 × omnidirectional condenser microphones, you can easily record instruments or vocals without needing any extra cabling or external gear.

Who This Pocketstudio Is Built For

The DP-006 is the right choice for songwriters, demo producers, and traveling musicians who want a tactile, distraction-free recording device. Solo artists can lay down vocals, acoustic guitar, bass, and a drum machine across the six tracks, then export the mix as a stereo WAV file for DAW polishing. Beginners will appreciate the analog-style buttons, dedicated knobs, and built-in chromatic tuner and metronome.

The Pocketstudio Heritage

Tascam's Pocketstudio line continues the legacy of the original Portastudio, the cassette-based 4-track recorder that helped launch the home recording revolution. This instrument carries that song-first philosophy into the digital era with familiar cassette-style ergonomics and SD-card storage.
