Sarah Vaughan, known as "Sassy" and "The Divine One," was an influential American jazz singer and pianist born in 1924. Celebrated for the beauty and power of her voice, she earned two Grammy Awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award, and received nine Grammy nominations. In 1989, she was honored with the NEA Jazz Masters Award. Vaughan is remembered as one of the most remarkable vocalists of the twentieth century.
