The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is a leading British symphony orchestra based in London, founded by Thomas Beecham in 1946. Known for its early successes with prestigious recording contracts and performances at major events like the Glyndebourne Festival Opera, the orchestra faced challenges after Beecham’s death but regained stability in the mid-1960s with public support. In 2004, the RPO established a permanent home at Cadogan Hall in Chelsea and regularly performs at major venues across London and beyond. Since 2021, Vasily Petrenko has served as its musical director.
