Refused is a Swedish hardcore punk band from Umeå, formed in 1991. Known for their intense sound and politically charged, far-left lyrics, the group consists of Dennis Lyxzén on vocals, Kristofer Steen on guitar, David Sandström on drums, and Magnus Flagge on bass. Former member Jon Brännström played guitar from 1994 until 2014. Refused gained recognition for blending punk with jazz and electronic influences, especially on their influential 1998 album The Shape of Punk to Come. Though they broke up shortly after its release, their music has had a lasting impact on punk and rock. The band reunited in 2012 and continued to release new albums, including Freedom in 2015 and War Music in 2019.
