Primus is an American rock band formed in El Sobrante, California in 1984. Known for their unconventional sound, they fuse elements of progressive rock, funk, metal, and psychedelia, creating a style that defies easy categorization. The band is led by bassist and vocalist Les Claypool, whose distinctive bass-driven songwriting and eccentric lyrics have become their hallmark. Guitarist Larry LaLonde joined in 1989, solidifying the lineup that launched Primus into the spotlight with albums like *Frizzle Fry*, *Sailing the Seas of Cheese*, *Pork Soda*, and *Tales from the Punchbowl*, all of which gained significant critical and commercial success in the 1990s. Primus has been recognized for hits like "Jerry Was a Race Car Driver," "My Name Is Mud," and "Wynona's Big Brown Beaver," and even created the original theme for South Park.
