John Grant, born in 1968, is an American singer, songwriter, and musician with dual American and Icelandic citizenship. He first gained recognition as the frontman and main songwriter of alternative rock band the Czars, releasing six albums before starting a solo career. As a solo artist, Grant is acclaimed for his distinctive blend of emotionally charged lyrics and eclectic sounds. His debut solo album, Queen of Denmark, was named album of the year by Mojo, while his follow-up, Pale Green Ghosts, received the same honor from Rough Trade. Subsequent albums like Grey Tickles, Black Pressure, Love Is Magic, Boy from Michigan, and The Art of the Lie have all received critical praise and chart success. Grant is also noted for his collaborations with artists such as Elton John, Kylie Minogue, Sinéad O’Connor, and Goldfrapp, as well as for his work as the lead vocalist of Creep Show.
