Hawkwind is an English rock band formed in 1969 and recognized as a pioneer of space rock. Over the years, they have explored a range of styles, including hard rock, progressive rock, and psychedelia, while influencing the early development of punk. Their music is noted for its science fiction themes and commentary on urban life. Hawkwind is most closely associated with founder Dave Brock, though many other prominent musicians such as Lemmy, Robert Calvert, and Michael Moorcock have contributed to the band. Their biggest hit, Silver Machine, reached number three in the UK charts in 1972, leading to a series of successful albums and singles. Hawkwind remains a significant and enduring presence in British rock music.
