Faust is a German rock band from Hamburg, formed in 1971 by producer Uwe Nettelbeck. The original lineup included Werner "Zappi" Diermaier, Hans Joachim Irmler, Arnulf Meifert, Jean-Hervé Péron, Rudolf Sosna, and Gunther Wüsthoff, with engineer Kurt Graupner. Known for their experimental use of dissonance, improvisation, and electronic sounds, Faust became influential in shaping ambient and industrial music genres. They are recognized as a key figure in the 1970s krautrock movement in West Germany.
