elbow are an English rock band from Bury, Greater Manchester, formed in 1990. The group includes Guy Garvey on vocals and guitar, Craig Potter on keyboards and backing vocals, Mark Potter on guitar and backing vocals, Pete Turner on bass and backing vocals, and Alex Reeves on drums. After years of playing together, they adopted the name elbow in 1997. Reeves joined as drummer in 2016 and became a full member in 2024.
The band has released ten studio albums, starting with Asleep in the Back in 2001 and most recently Audio Vertigo in 2024. All of their albums and the B-sides collection Dead in the Boot have reached the top 15 in the UK charts, while singles like One Day Like This have earned significant recognition. elbow won the Mercury Prize for The Seldom Seen Kid in 2008 and the Brit Award for Best British Group in 2009. Their music has received further acclaim, including an Ivor Novello Award and an appearance in the 2012 London Olympics closing ceremony with the song First Steps.
