Buzzcocks are an influential English punk rock band from Manchester, formed in 1976 by Pete Shelley and Howard Devoto. Known for their energetic blend of punk, power pop, and catchy melodies, they achieved success with a series of sharp, memorable singles that were later featured on their acclaimed compilation Singles Going Steady. After Devoto’s departure in 1977, Shelley led the band through its first three classic albums until their split in 1981. Buzzcocks reunited in 1989, continued to release new music, and remained active through lineup changes. Following Shelley’s death in 2018, Steve Diggle took over lead vocals. The current lineup released the album Sonics in the Soul in 2022, continuing the band’s legacy of fast-paced, melodic punk.
