I use it directly with hardware synths, MIDI only routed through the computer (or I could afford an USB MIDI Host and send data directly to the hardware, without even using a computer). Unlike the APC Mini, this has configurable knobs and buttons where the MIDI channel and the CC number can be set using the software provided by AKAI; a nice improvement! Unfortunately, the buttons can send MIDI notes only, not CC, which limits hardware control possibilities. All in all, a small, useful, and super cheap piece!
